Ethereum is accelerating its mainnet transition to ZK (Zero-Knowledge Proofs), which is a key strategy to enhance Gas limits and overall performance while ensuring decentralization. The role of ZK may seem simple but is crucial—allowing nodes to quickly verify transactions through cryptographic proofs, thereby bypassing the tedious process of individual checks and significantly lowering hardware requirements. Although ZK itself does not directly speed up the network, it is an essential foundation for the mainnet TPS to reach the thousands.

Vitalik has publicly stated that ZK-EVM has entered the Alpha stage, and supporting upgrades like PeerDAS are also steadily progressing. Currently, ZK-EVM employs a multi-line parallel strategy, with Polygon, Scroll, zkSync, and Taiko each pursuing their own technical routes, which are likely to converge into the most cost-effective solution in the end. On the other hand, ZK-VM projects like Brevis, which are not limited by EVM constraints and have higher performance ceilings, will continue to be encouraged as long-term support for ecosystem diversification.

The mainnet ZK transition may siphon some users back from the L2 ecosystem, but the overall effect will be further cost reductions, which in turn will drive more users toward L2. This represents a healthy complementarity between the mainnet and L2, rather than pure competition.

Alright, alright, ZK-EVM is hyped again. We still have to wait to actually use it. Don't keep fooling people.

Wait, is ZK-EVM still in Alpha? It feels like Ethereum is taking a bit too slow with this move. Polygon and Scroll are almost ready, but the mainnet is still waiting for the perfect solution... But on the other hand, can the costs really come down? I’m a bit skeptical. Who will decide what "cost-performance ratio is optimal" as Vitalik said? Mainnet L2s competing or complementing each other, honestly, depends on how cheap the gas is. A thousand TPS sounds good, but when will that happen... I believe in lowering hardware barriers, but what about user experience? It’s still the same lag. ZK-VM has a high ceiling, but who will build the ecosystem? Is Brevis enough? The concept of siphoning is interesting; it seems like L2 is the real winner.

Alright, the ZK-EVM path seems to be serious, but talking about thousands of TPS is easy; actually achieving it is difficult. Wait, can Polygon and Scroll really converge on a single solution? I'm a bit skeptical, as their interests are different. The idea of mainnet L2 complementarity sounds good, but the actual implementation depends on how much the gas fees can be reduced. Vitalik says Alpha is Alpha; let's wait until the Mainnet to discuss further. This wave of ZK-VM might actually cause disruption, since it is not constrained by EVM and has a higher ceiling. In the long run, the ecosystem may become increasingly fragmented. I will only believe it's a healthy complement if the costs really come down. It's still early days.

zkEVM Alpha is indeed out, but I feel like we should wait a bit longer before making any moves. Wait, isn't the logic reversed regarding the mainnet siphoning L2 users... Polygon, Scroll, zkSync are all running, but in the end, one dominates, what about the others? Lowering hardware requirements is the real way to profit; ordinary people can run nodes too. Another round of fee reductions, and this bull market will take off directly. NGL, compared to ZK, I'm more concerned about when it will be truly implemented; Alpha is still far away. I believe in mainnet L2 interoperability, but how long will it really benefit users... How is PeerDAS progressing? There's been no significant movement. A thousand TPS sounds great, but I don't know when we'll actually see it.

Another grand narrative of "theoretically feasible"... ZK-EVM is still in Alpha, and now people are talking about mainnet thousands of TPS. I'll first see how deep this smart trap really is.
