Sui, as a high-performance public chain, has attracted many developers with its low latency and Move language. However, having only the computing layer in the complete ecosystem is not enough; data storage must keep up. Walrus was launched in this context—an officially incubated storage solution that, to some extent, carries the expectations of Sui's data infrastructure.

Over the past two months of close observation, Walrus has indeed shown some commendable technical implementations. The team comes from Mysten Labs (the original team behind Sui), which provides unique advantages. Storage objects are directly mapped to on-chain blobs, a dual-token (SUI and WAL) payment mechanism, and smart contracts can directly call storage interfaces—this integrated architecture significantly reduces complexity in DApp development. It sounds very promising, but there are also sharp issues: Walrus is too tightly bound to Sui. If the main chain ecosystem doesn't take off, this storage solution will essentially be useless.

From the application demand perspective, scenarios like NFT metadata, game assets, AI training data, and social content storage theoretically all require decentralized storage. But in reality? There are very few applications running on Walrus. The ideal is appealing, but the ecosystem still needs time to develop.

It's the same old routine of official gold-standard plans; the technical hype sounds impressive, but few actually use it. The Sui ecosystem hasn't even taken off yet, and Walrus is already carrying such heavy expectations? Tying too tightly poses high risks. Theoretically perfect, but in reality, it's a ghost town. We'll see when truly decent applications emerge.

Ecosystem is really weak, Walrus and Sui are too tightly integrated, if the main chain can't get off the ground, it's game over. How many projects are actually in use? I heard they're still in the testing phase. Token dual-track payments look good, but in reality? It's just a marketing gimmick. Storage needs do exist, but why must it be Walrus? Other solutions are also fine. No matter how advanced the technical architecture is, without an ecosystem, it's all useless. This is a common problem with L1. Let's wait and see. Investing in Walrus now feels too much of a gamble. Move language is a selling point, but what developers truly need is cash flow and users, not flashy low-level design.

It's another "ecosystem story"... Walrus does have good technology, but this binding issue is really disgusting. Sui can't get off the ground, and it's all over. Politely called integration; harshly, it's just being trapped and stuck. AI training data storage? No one is using it now. What's the point of bragging so much? Team coming from Mysten Labs? So what? If they can't solve the cold start problem, all efforts are in vain. If the ecosystem can't be built up, it's just an empty shell. Just look at how many real applications are running to know.

That's right, Walrus has indeed been hijacked by Sui. Without a thriving ecosystem, it's just a decoration. There's no application running on it, so even the best architecture is useless. No matter how advanced the technology is, it's a tragedy if no one uses it. The Move language is indeed good, but when it comes to storage, it still depends on how many real projects can be attracted in the future. The dual-token mechanism is a bit complicated, and the difficulty for ordinary developers to get started is not low. Don't turn it into another high-end but unused solution. Walrus wants to become popular, but it still depends on the true explosion of the Sui ecosystem, otherwise, there's no hope.
