Tether Freezes Approximately 11.96 Million USDT on Tron Chain Address

Gate News reports that on March 15, according to Whale Alert monitoring, Tether froze 11,960,680 USDT held on a Tron blockchain address. Tether implements the freezing mechanism through its smart contract’s built-in blacklist feature. After an administrator calls the addBlackList function to add a specific address to the blacklist, all USDT transfers to and from that address become disabled. The balance remains visible but is permanently locked. Such freezes are typically triggered by anti-money laundering, fraud, or sanctions enforcement requirements. Data shows that Tether has frozen over $4.2 billion worth of USDT in recent years, with most of these freezes occurring after 2023.
