Ripple and Stellar founder Jed McCaleb plans to invest $1 billion in developing an AGI system based on human brain principles

According to Forbes, Ripple and Stellar founder Jed McCaleb will allocate $1 billion from his approximately $3.9 billion cryptocurrency fortune to develop an AGI system based on human brain principles through his nonprofit organization, the Astera Institute. Additionally, he has committed another $600 million to the field of neuroscience.
The Astera Institute, located in Emeryville, is currently planning to record neural activity patterns in mice performing tasks via brain-machine interfaces, then translate the research findings into new AI architectures. Future experiments will expand to monkeys and humans. McCaleb believes that current mainstream Transformer architectures lack key elements such as planning, decision-making, and motivation, and that new directions need to be explored. AI based on human brain principles is more likely to be understood and controlled by humans.
