According to YouTube, on May 27, the platform expanded its AI disclosure system with more prominent label placement and automatic detection capabilities. Labels for AI-generated or "meaningfully altered" videos will now appear directly below long-form video players and as overlays on Shorts. YouTube also introduced automatic AI detection to label videos that use significant photorealistic AI generation, even if creators do not disclose AI use.
The update accompanies the rollout of Gemini Omni-powered editing and remix features across YouTube Shorts, allowing users to restyle videos, insert themselves into clips, and create new versions of other creators' content. YouTube stated the changes are designed to balance transparency with creator control and do not affect video recommendations or monetization eligibility.
