TikTok Nears $400M Settlement With Trump Administration Over Child Privacy Violations

GateNews

According to Reuters, the Trump administration is nearing a $400 million settlement with TikTok to resolve a 2024 lawsuit over alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. The Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission sued TikTok and parent company ByteDance, alleging the app collected and retained data from users under 13 without parental consent. ByteDance completed a majority American-owned joint venture earlier this year as part of efforts to avoid a U.S. ban.
