According to Decrypt, Tezos launched TzEL, a post-quantum privacy system for blockchain payments, on its testnet recently. Co-founder Arthur Breitman told Decrypt that quantum computing poses a legitimate threat to blockchain security and criticized segments of the crypto industry for treating the risk as a conspiracy theory rather than addressing it urgently.
Breitman explained the “collect now, decrypt later” attack threat: blockchain data is permanent and publicly stored with exposed public keys, which attackers can preserve until quantum computers become powerful enough to break existing encryption. Tezos has already begun offering post-quantum signature support for user accounts, though Breitman noted the project remains in experimental phase with further development needed before wider deployment.
