Tencent Tests WeChat AI Agents in June, Enables Cross-Mini-Program Tasks

According to Beating intelligence, Tencent is prototyping AI agents in WeChat set to launch early compliance filing this month. Users can swipe right on the WeChat home screen to access the AI chat interface, enabling the agent to automatically call mini-programs and complete cross-app tasks such as finding coffee shops and placing orders based on customer preferences.

The rollout faces significant hardware constraints. Tencent's early chip hoarding before Nvidia export restrictions was conservative, and China's domestic semiconductor supply remains tight. Internal assessments indicate full-scale deployment would incur high infrastructure costs, with insufficient near-term revenue to offset computational and operational expenses.
