Status AI, a gamified social media startup enabling users to role-play as characters in AI-generated worlds, announced on May 19 that it raised US$17 million across seed and series A funding rounds. The funding came from General Catalyst, Y Combinator, LightShed Partners, and Abstract. The company plans to use the capital to scale its platform, which has generated over 13 million worlds and 5 million character profiles since launching from stealth last year.

## Founding Team and Platform Features

Status AI was founded by Fai Nur, Amit Bhatnagar, and Pritesh Kadiwala. The app allows users to create personas, join user-generated worlds, and interact in both multiplayer and single-player modes. Users can explore and build within AI-generated environments, with the ability to generate custom characters and worlds.

## Funding and Growth Metrics

The US$17 million raise represents the company's initial capital infusion to support platform expansion. Since coming out of stealth, Status AI has reached 13 million worlds created and over 5 million character profiles, demonstrating early user engagement with the role-play and world-building features.
