South Korea Single-Family Homeowners Pay Average 1.12M Won Annually in Property Tax in 2025, Up 230K Won Year-over-Year

According to Participatory Democracy Center's analysis of 2025 South Korean tax statistics, single-family homeowners paid an average of 1.12 million won annually in comprehensive real estate tax last year, up 230,000 won from 2024, or approximately 90,000 won per month. Only about 1% of the nation's 16 million residential property owners are subject to property tax as single-family homeowners. In Seoul, single-family property tax payers represent 4.5% of 2.659 million homeowners. The analysis found that overlapping application of elderly and long-term holding tax deductions—allowing reductions of up to 80%—results in owners of 4-billion-won apartments paying as little as 90,000 won monthly.
