According to BlockBeats, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang posted his first personal tweet on July 24, sharing an open letter titled "Open Weights and American AI Leadership," co-signed by over 20 technology companies and organizations including Meta, Microsoft, Andreessen Horowitz, Hugging Face, IBM, Mistral AI, Palantir, Perplexity, Mozilla, and Y Combinator. The letter argues that open-weight models—AI systems that anyone can download, inspect, modify, and run on their own infrastructure—expand AI economy access, strengthen market competition, and give users greater control. While acknowledging real risks associated with open-weight models, the signatories contend the appropriate response is not prohibition but advancing AI safety and cybersecurity defenses through openness. The letter urges policymakers to increase compute access, invest in shared training resources, and avoid premature restrictions on open models. "The world needs both frontier closed-source and frontier open-source models," Huang stated.
