According to a statement from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the agency is updating regulations to eliminate the requirement that vehicles designed to be fully driven by autonomous systems must be equipped with manual brake pedals. Other braking performance requirements, including strict braking distance standards, will remain in effect.
