According to Jin10, EQT Corp CEO Toby Rice predicts natural gas will surpass oil as the primary U.S. energy source by 2030, ending oil's dominance since 1950. As of 2025, natural gas accounts for 36% of U.S. energy consumption versus 37% for oil. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasts that from 2025 to 2027, U.S. oil demand will grow 0.6% while natural gas demand will increase 3.4%, further narrowing the gap.
