According to Bloomberg, Meta Platforms announced yesterday plans to commercialize its artificial intelligence computing capacity through a newly established unit called Meta Compute, formally entering the enterprise cloud market. The company aims to monetize its AI infrastructure investment, estimated to total hundreds of billions of dollars, by offering AI computing services and model access to external businesses.
Meta's stock jumped over 8% on the news, marking one of the best single-day performances this year, with intraday gains exceeding 10%. If launched, Meta would become the last major U.S. technology company to enter the commercial cloud market, directly challenging Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. The company is evaluating two business models: hosting AI models similar to AWS Bedrock, or directly renting GPU computing power comparable to Neocloud providers. Insiders noted Meta remains in early planning stages and may adjust or cancel the initiative.
