1️⃣ Cross-chain bridge suffers a major security vulnerability, threatening control of funds Butter Network’s cross-chain bridge was attacked on Ethereum and BSC. The attacker exploited a Solidity vulnerability in the Butter Bridge V3.1 contract to mint about 1000 trillion MAPO tokens to newly created EOA addresses, a scale of 4.8 million times the legitimate circulating supply (208 million tokens). The attacker bypassed the verification mechanism by forging cross-chain messages and using modified “retry” information. This incident highlights serious code security risks in the project’s cross-chain bridge layer.

2️⃣ Emergency response mechanism is triggered; liquidity risk is significant The MAP Protocol team immediately paused the bridging function between ERC-20 and the mainnet, suspended token deposits and withdrawals services across all related trading platforms, and banned trading of MAPO ERC-20 on liquidity pools such as Uniswap. The attacker has already profited about 52.21 ETH from the Uniswap V4 ETH/MAPO pool (about $180,000), but still holds about 9,999.99 billion MAPO, posing a continuous threat to future liquidity.

3️⃣ Asset recovery plan launched; the token supply system faces restructuring The team announced it will timely release a new contract address and conduct an asset snapshot. All remaining tokens controlled by the attacker will be completely invalidated and will not be included in any future conversion process. This means that the rights of original MAPO holders must be preserved through migration to the new contract, and historical token supply data will be reset.
