Kukkiwon has officially launched a blockchain-powered digital certification system called Kukkiwon Digital ID, enabling Taekwondo practitioners and instructors to access poom and dan certificates directly through smartphones. The mobile application uses Decentralized Identity (DID) technology to replace traditional paper certificates and plastic identification cards, addressing longstanding issues including damage, loss, forgery concerns, and personal information exposure. The app is now available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Blockchain Technology and Digital Certification Scope

The newly introduced system leverages blockchain and decentralized identity technology to strengthen certificate security and improve verification reliability. According to Kukkiwon, users can receive 13 different poom and dan qualifications through the platform, covering first through fourth poom and first through ninth dan certifications. Additionally, the platform provides digital access to 14 separate certifications connected to the World Taekwondo Academy.

The mobile application allows users to securely store and access qualification credentials without depending on physical documentation. This transition marks a significant modernization of Taekwondo qualification management and administrative efficiency across the martial arts community.

QR Code Verification and Security Enhancement

A major component of the new system involves QR code-based qualification verification, enabling users to authenticate certifications directly within mobile environments. This functionality simplifies verification processes at dojangs, tournaments, and institutional checkpoints while improving convenience for practitioners, instructors, and administrators during competitions, training sessions, and official administrative procedures.

Kukkiwon officials indicated that the digital transformation is intended to strengthen personal information protection standards. By moving certifications into secure digital storage environments, the organization aims to reduce risks associated with lost documents and unauthorized access to sensitive user data.

Yoon Ung-seok reportedly explained that the introduction of digital poom and dan certificates could represent a major turning point in improving the credibility and reliability of Taekwondo qualification systems.

Global Expansion and Future Development

Kukkiwon indicated that additional linked services may be introduced following the stabilization of the digital certificate ecosystem. The organization is reportedly reviewing the development of a globally accessible administrative framework capable of supporting international Taekwondo operations more efficiently.

Analysts noted that the initiative reflects a growing trend among sports organizations and educational institutions adopting blockchain-based credential systems for secure digital verification. By integrating decentralized identity infrastructure into martial arts certification management, Kukkiwon appears to be positioning itself at the forefront of digital transformation within the global sports administration sector.
