According to Odaily (Jin10), Iran has recently threatened to charge fees to multinational technology companies using undersea communication cables that pass through the Hormuz Strait and Persian Gulf, or risk data transmission disruptions. Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have been named among the targeted firms. The cables transmit the majority of internet and financial data between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, serving as critical infrastructure for the global digital system.
