IOTA Foundation Activates Starfish Consensus Protocol on April 23; Expands TWIN Framework in Africa

According to IOTA Foundation's Q2 2026 report, the Foundation activated the Starfish consensus protocol on April 23 to enhance mainnet stability under real-world network conditions. The upgrade also completed Protocol Version 29 with enhanced smart contract security measures.

In application-level progress, IOTA expanded TWIN trade infrastructure deployments across Africa and the United Kingdom. With TradeMark Africa, the team developed business models for Kenya deployment; the ADAPT initiative launched digital identity and payment infrastructure trials in Kenya, Nigeria, and Morocco. In the UK, TWIN secured five key supporters for International Supply Network integration. The TWIN Foundation projects over 30 countries will go live by 2030.
