IOSCO Updates Global Fund Valuation Framework Amid Private Market Boom and Retail Expansion

According to IOSCO's official report released in June, the International Organization of Securities Commissions updated its fund valuation recommendations, introducing 13 new guidelines to replace frameworks from 2007 and 2013.

The overhaul addresses rapid growth in private markets—with global private equity assets now exceeding $9 trillion and private debt reaching approximately $2 trillion—alongside increasing retail investor access to these previously institutional asset classes. IOSCO cited the need for stronger governance, improved valuation methodologies, better conflict-of-interest management and enhanced disclosure practices to ensure investor protection and market stability as these less liquid assets become mainstream.
