EU Imposes $1 Billion Fine on Google for Digital Markets Act Violations on July 24

According to Jin10, the European Union fined Google approximately $1 billion on July 24 for violating the Digital Markets Act. The U.S. Trade Representative, Kent Griel, criticized the penalty as "unreasonable financial punishment," stating that EU's recent actions against American technology companies risk destabilizing transatlantic trade relations and create uncertainty for U.S. exports to Europe.

Grel emphasized that meaningful dialogue requires a temporary ceasefire, but EU's recent actions undermine stabilization efforts. He stated that while the EU claims to want stable and predictable trade relationships, these enforcement decisions contradict that position.
