Ethereum Researchers Propose XMSS Public Key Registry for ~1M Validators on June 1

According to The Defiant, Ethereum researchers Thomas Coratger and Justin Drake proposed a dedicated XMSS public key registry on June 1 as the first protocol upgrade step toward post-quantum cryptography migration. The registry enables approximately 1 million validators to register quantum-safe XMSS keys before a full transition from the BLS signature system, reducing network stability risks during the switch. The proposal has been added to the Ethereum Foundation's protocol team roadmap as its first protocol fork.
