According to Dragonfly partner Haseeb, the recently fixed Zcash vulnerability, if exploited before patching (though highly unlikely), would manifest as counterfeit ZEC minted to the privacy pool. Attackers would face difficulty executing quick sales, as mainstream exchanges primarily trade transparent ZEC and cannot directly process unshielded privacy ZEC. Consequently, losses would fall primarily on privacy ZEC holders, with minimal impact on transparent ZEC holders and price discovery.
Zcash's development team plans to introduce a new turnstile mechanism and redesigned privacy pool in the next upgrade to verify the privacy pool has not been inflated, Haseeb noted.
