Cross River announced on July 28 that it will provide banking infrastructure services for X Money. X Money is a financial services platform integrated into X (formerly Twitter) that enables peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, interest-bearing accounts insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and a Visa debit card.
According to Cross River’s announcement, the specific banking infrastructure services provided for X Money include: peer-to-peer (P2P) payment functionality; FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) insured interest-bearing accounts; and a Visa debit card. Cross River, through its regulated bank platform and payments rails, provides embedded financial infrastructure for fintechs and technology companies. Its business scope covers payments, cards, lending, and cryptocurrency services, but the announcement for X Money does not mention any support for cryptocurrency or stablecoins.
X Money’s development timeline is as follows:
2022: When Elon Musk acquired Twitter, he first publicly said the move was intended to “accelerate building X—the all-encompassing application,” initially hinting at a vision to integrate financial services
May 2025: Musk announced that X Money had entered limited beta testing and said early promotion would be limited because handling users’ savings requires “extra caution”
March 2026: X Money expands to limited external beta testing in preparation for a larger-scale release
July 28, 2026: Cross River announces it will provide banking infrastructure to support X Money’s P2P payments, FDIC account services, and Visa debit card services
Before launching X Money, X had already established the necessary financial regulatory foundation. X has obtained remittance licenses in more than 40 U.S. states and is registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to support P2P payments on the platform. Cross River itself operates through its regulated bank platform, providing the underlying infrastructure for X Money’s compliant financial services.
