Coinbase Enables USDC Payments from AI Agents via x402 Standard

According to a Thursday announcement, Coinbase Business users can now accept USDC payments from autonomous AI agents through the x402 payment standard, which Coinbase introduced in May 2025 to enable stablecoin payments over HTTP for AI agents, applications and APIs.

The company also launched AI trading tools allowing users to monitor orders and execute actions based on predefined conditions, alongside a software development kit for developers building agent-powered applications. Coinbase said these products support the "agentic economy" and noted that agent-generated traffic recently surpassed human traffic on its Base documentation pages for the first time.
