China's CMA Upgrades South China Sea Low-Pressure System to Typhoon Maysak on July 3

According to China Meteorological Administration, a South China Sea tropical low-pressure system strengthened into Typhoon Maysak (2026's 10th typhoon, tropical storm level) in the early morning of July 3. As of 5 a.m., the typhoon center was located about 155 kilometers south-southeast of Lingshui County, Hainan Province, in the central-western South China Sea at coordinates 17.2°N, 110.5°E. The maximum sustained wind near the center reached 8 levels (18 meters per second) with central pressure of 998 hPa.
