According to China's National Health Commission and National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, authorities released the 2026 edition of the Ebola Virus Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Protocol. The protocol details that Ebola virus disease, formerly called Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is an acute infectious disease with high pathogenicity and mortality caused by Ebola virus infection, primarily transmitted through direct contact with blood, bodily fluids, secretions, and excretions of infected patients, deceased persons, or animals. The average case fatality rate is approximately 50%, with certain virus strains reaching 90%.
The disease is mainly endemic to sub-Saharan Africa. China has reported no confirmed indigenous or imported cases to date.
