China Calls Japan, Philippines to Halt Maritime Delimitation East of Taiwan on July 2

According to China's Ministry of Natural Resources, on July 2, Japan and the Philippines' plan to launch bilateral maritime delimitation negotiations in waters east of Taiwan constitutes international wrongdoing. The proposed delimitation zone overlaps significantly with China's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf claimable under international law. The ministry stated that the move disregards the region's specific geography, violates principles of sovereign equality and good faith, and contravenes cooperation and restraint obligations. China demands Japan and the Philippines cease the delimitation talks and initiate consultations with China to fulfill international responsibilities.
