China-Built Light Rail in Astana Opens May 16, Marking Central Asia's First Urban Metro System

According to Xinhua News Agency, the first phase of the Astana Light Rail project built by Chinese enterprises officially opened on May 16, making it the first city light rail in Central Asia. The project operator, Astana Urban Transport System LLC, confirmed that the completed section spans approximately 22.4 kilometers and includes 18 stations, connecting key landmarks such as the airport, Nazarbayev University, the National Museum, and the new train station.
