Canada Retail Sales Fall 0.7% in March, Consumer Spending Momentum Weakens

GateNews
According to Caixin Macro analyst Bradley Saunders, Canada's retail sales declined 0.7% month-on-month in March, though the drop was milder than expected. On a nominal basis, March sales rose 0.9%, beating prior estimates of 0.6%. Preliminary data showed April sales grew an additional 0.6%; however, with gasoline prices rising about 5% that month, Saunders expects the underlying sales volume remained roughly flat.
