Bittensor Proposes 'Root Reborn' to Restructure Staking Rewards; TAO Down 28% in 12 Months

TAO-0.47%
According to CoinDesk, Bittensor developer unconst submitted governance proposal 'Root Reborn' on June 17, currently undergoing code review and not yet deployed on mainnet. The proposal aims to restructure TAO staking rewards by transforming validators from passive income recipients into active capital allocators similar to fund managers. Instead of the current system that sells validator rewards and auto-converts subnet tokens to TAO, validators would independently select subnets to support and reinvest rewards into those assets for compound growth. The redesign intends to convert continuous selling pressure into structural buy orders and strengthen higher-quality subnets. TAO has declined approximately 28% over the past 12 months, with current annualized staking yields at 17%.
