According to European news outlet, the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico will deploy AI and new technologies to enhance match and viewing experiences. The official match ball will feature built-in 500Hz motion sensor chips capable of collecting 500 data points per second to track ball speed and trajectory in real time, assisting referees with critical decisions on offsides, handball, and penalties.
Venues will also create AI-powered digital avatars for all 1,248 players to help referees quickly reconstruct match scenes and improve decision-making accuracy.
