Raoul Pal: Cryptocurrency is the "Universal Basic Equity" in the AI era, and within five years, Agents will account for three-fifths of DeFi users.
BlockBeats News, May 7, at the Miami Consensus 2026 conference, Raoul Pal, co-founder and CEO of Real Vision, said:
Humanity is at a historic turning point unprecedented in scale. We are about to welcome AGI entities that are smarter, more flexible, and more powerful than humans, and AI capabilities are currently improving by more than double each year. By 2028, the annual output of AI-generated text will surpass the total amount of all human-produced output in history, and all of this will happen within 5 years.
After AI replaces the workforce at scale, the solution is not traditional universal basic income (UBI), but “Universal Basic Equity.” This is the first time in human history that ordinary people can directly own the underlying networks by holding crypto infrastructure tokens, and benefit in parallel as the Agent economy expands. Institutional entry has not deviated from the spirit of crypto; instead, for the first time, it puts anyone in the world on the same starting line as firms like BlackRock to buy BTC, ETH, and SOL.
During the rapid-fire Q&A session, Pal said that if he had to choose between two options, he would choose Solana over Bitcoin, and he expects that within 5 years, Agents and humans will become the main user groups of DeFi in a 3:2 ratio.
