a16z recently intensively deploying AI and crypto: launching a $2.2 billion Crypto Fund 5 and continuously investing in multiple AI companies
BlockBeats News, May 7 — a16z has recently announced multiple investments in the AI and crypto sectors. On one hand, they launched a new crypto fund, Crypto Fund 5, with a scale of $2.2 billion; on the other hand, they are heavily betting on AI Agents, enterprise automation, and AI content creation.
On May 5, a16z announced the launch of the fifth crypto fund, Crypto Fund 5, with a scale of $2.2 billion, to be used for investing in blockchain startups at all stages over the next decade. a16z stated that although some venture capital funds are shifting towards AI, the current fundamentals of the crypto industry are “at a historic high,” with a focus on stablecoins, payments, on-chain finance, prediction markets, and RWA.
Meanwhile, a16z is also accelerating its layout in the AI application layer.
In the enterprise AI sector, a16z led a Series A funding round for AI system integration company Tessera Labs. The company aims to replace traditional SAP consulting teams with multi-agent systems to achieve ERP automation migration. The official statement says its 6-person AI team can complete the work that previously involved about 60 consultants over two years.
In the AI talent platform field, a16z also led a $22.75 million Series A funding round for London-based AI recruitment platform Ethos. Ethos uses AI to analyze candidates’ papers, code, and professional skills instead of relying on traditional resumes, attempting to solve talent identification issues amid the proliferation of AI-generated resumes.
Additionally, a16z previously announced leading a seed round for AI content creation platform Glif. Glif is positioned as a “super Agent in the creative field,” integrating various generative AI tools for images, videos, and audio, aiming to simplify AI content creation workflows through a unified Agent.
Analysts believe that a16z is simultaneously betting on two main lines: “Crypto infrastructure + AI application explosion,” with particular attention to new opportunities brought by the combination of Agents, automated workflows, and on-chain finance.
