GUSD Just Got a Serious Upgrade And Your Stablecoins Should Be Paying Rent
Let's be honest. Most stablecoins sit in wallets doing absolutely nothing. You hold them as a parking spot between trades, and they generate zero return while you wait. That's always been the unspoken deal liquidity comes at the cost of dead capital.
GUSD is quietly changing that equation, and the latest upgrade makes it a lot harder to ignore.
Gate just expanded GUSD minting to support 1:1 conversion with USD1, alongside the existing USDT and USDC routes. That might sound like a small plumbing change, but it's actually a meaningful signal. USD1 — World Liberty Financial's dollar-backed stablecoin has been gaining real traction since its launch, and Gate is now the second-largest holder of USD1 among centralized exchanges. Bridging GUSD and USD1 creates a tighter loop between two of the most strategically positioned stablecoins in the market right now.
Here's why it matters in practice.
The yield is real, and it's not coming from thin air. GUSD's 3.8% APR isn't subsidized by token emissions or venture funding. It's sourced from U.S. Treasury RWA holdings and Gate's ecosystem revenue. Think of it as a yield-bearing certificate backed by short-term government paper and exchange cash flows not a degen farming protocol dressed up in a stablecoin costume. Returns accumulate from the moment you mint and get distributed daily to your trading account in GUSD. No lockup. No redemption fees. You can pull out anytime.
The stacking is where it gets interesting. GUSD doesn't just sit there earning 3.8%. You can simultaneously deploy it into Launchpool campaigns, Pre-IPO allocations, and other wealth management products on Gate. The current estimated combined yield when stacking GUSD minting returns with Launchpool staking hits roughly 8.56% APY. That's not a typo — you're essentially double-dipping on the same capital. The base yield pays you for holding, and the platform rewards pay you for participating.
The bigger picture is about stablecoin convergence. Right now the stablecoin market is bigger than it's ever been — on-chain volume surpassed $7.2 trillion earlier this year, overtaking the U.S. ACH network for the first time. But most of that volume is still just settlement. The next evolution is stablecoins that work while they settle. GUSD is one of the few products that actually treats your dollar-pegged capital as productive rather than passive.
The USD1 integration is also worth reading into. When a major exchange builds a direct on-ramp between its own yield-bearing certificate and a politically connected stablecoin backed by U.S. government money market funds, that's not just a feature update it's a strategic bet on which stablecoins will matter in a post-GENIUS Act regulatory environment. Tether's compliance window is ticking. The stablecoins that survive will be the ones with transparent reserves, real utility, and institutional backing. GUSD and USD1 check all three boxes.
The mechanics are straightforward. Deposit USDT, USDC, or now USD1 into your Gate account. Mint GUSD at 1:1. Yield starts accumulating immediately. Redeem anytime. No games, no hidden lockups, no fine print about withdrawal windows.
If you're holding stablecoins anywhere right now and they're not earning you at least 3.8% with daily compounding and full liquidity, you're leaving money on the table. Plain and simple.
The stablecoin market is maturing fast. The ones that just hold your dollars are going to look increasingly outdated. The ones that grow your dollars while you sleep? That's where this is heading.
