On the early morning of March 4th, Alibaba Qwen’s head, Lin Junyang, posted a tweet announcing that he would be leaving the Qwen team. His post on X read: “me stepping down. bye my beloved qwen.”
Sources close to Alibaba revealed that this departure was quite sudden. The incident occurred on the afternoon of March 3rd, after an internal meeting, during which disagreements arose, and Lin Junyang left on the spot. A few hours later, he officially announced the news on his personal X platform.
As of press time, Alibaba has not responded to this news. Another insider close to Alibaba stated that senior management is still in talks to try to retain him, but a former employee from Tongyi System believes, “If he’s leaving, he’s leaving. Chances are they won’t try to keep him.” Some top technical experts within Tongyi Laboratory are considered to have significantly more expertise than Lin Junyang.
In the afternoon of March 4th, Lin Junyang posted a message on WeChat Moments, saying: “Sorry everyone, I won’t reply to messages or calls today. I really need to rest. To the brothers at Qwen, continue as planned, no problem.” (Phoenix Technology)
