Regarding company recruitment, many companies don't actually lack staff, but they still conduct hiring to lure people in for interviews, ask a bunch of questions, and ultimately don't hire anyone. In 2019, I experienced this in Shenzhen—during the summer, I went through about two weeks of continuous interviews under the scorching heat. I traveled a long way by subway, spending a lot of time on the road. When I arrived, most of the time I was dismissed after a few words (yes, I am very sure).
