Today (February 28), the key national infrastructure project for oil and natural gas—the Su-Wan-Yu Main Line—officially broke ground. This is also the first major national oil and gas pipeline project to start construction in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, marking a new stage in the development of the “National Grid” for natural gas. The energy corridor layout continues to be optimized, and regional supply capacity will be further enhanced.
Construction begins on the Su-Wan-Yu Main Line pipeline
In Huai’an, Jiangsu, as the first weld was officially ignited, the construction of the Su-Wan-Yu Main Line project was fully launched. The project starts from Tongyu Branch Gas Transmission Station in Yancheng, Jiangsu, and ends at Lushandong Compression Station in Pingdingshan, Henan. It passes through 14 cities in Jiangsu, Anhui, and Henan provinces, with a total length of 822.5 kilometers, a design pressure of 10 MPa, and an annual designed gas transmission volume of 18.3 billion cubic meters. Once completed, it will effectively improve the pipeline network density in central and eastern China, further strengthen peak-shaving and supply guarantee capabilities for natural gas, precisely meet the demand for clean fuel driven by industrial upgrades along the route, and inject green momentum into high-quality regional economic and social development.
As an east-west main trunk pipeline, the Su-Wan-Yu Main Line will connect liquefied natural gas from Binhai, Jiangsu, link the “Northern Gas to the South” energy corridor, and integrate the West-to-East Gas Transmission pipeline system, enabling bidirectional supply of land and sea gas resources and mutual support between land and sea resources.
Multiple main natural gas pipelines start construction simultaneously
Promoting the continuous improvement of the “National Grid” layout
In the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, China continues to increase investment in energy infrastructure. Along with the Su-Wan-Yu Main Line, several other major natural gas pipelines have also begun construction simultaneously.
The 645.5-kilometer Wenzhou 23–Anqing Natural Gas Pipeline project connects the Wenzhou 23 Gas Storage, E’an Cang Pipeline, and the Su-Wan-Yu Main Line, among others, improving the north-south natural gas network layout and strengthening supply capacity in the Henan, Shandong, and Anhui regions. The Shandong North Main Line project further enhances China’s energy corridor in the Bohai Rim area, supporting high-quality development of the Bohai Rim economic circle. These three projects, spanning Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, and Shandong provinces, are being constructed simultaneously, forming a strong momentum for the development of energy infrastructure clusters.
Currently, China has established a “Four Major Strategic Corridors + Five Vertical and Five Horizontal” natural gas trunk pipeline network pattern, with a total length of over 60,000 kilometers, covering 30 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. During the 14th Five-Year Plan, the “National Grid” layout will continue to be improved to better support the construction of a modern industrial system.
