According to a report by Germany’s Der Spiegel weekly website on February 27, experts believe that the Tehran government can at least counter U.S. forces in the short term in response to American attacks. Fawzan Sabit, a Middle East policy analyst at the Geneva Institute for International Relations and Development, said that Iran’s military has the capability to cause serious damage to U.S. bases in the region, and even inflict heavy losses on U.S. soldiers. This is mainly due to Iran’s missile arsenal. In 2022, then-U.S. Central Command Commander Kenneth McKenzie stated that Iran possessed over 3,000 different types of ballistic missiles, and compared to previous missiles, these weapons have significantly improved accuracy. The New York Times quoted former U.S. military officer Paul Eaton as saying that if an attack is launched, the U.S. military must be prepared for Iran to fire 100 missiles at U.S. bases. The U.S. military does not have Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system or Israel’s network of shelters. (Reference: Xinwen)
