Mars Finance News, February 28 — Artificial intelligence company Anthropic issued a statement saying, “We have made two requests for exceptions regarding the lawful use of the AI model Claude: a ban on large-scale domestic surveillance of the American public and a ban on fully autonomous weapons systems. To date, we have not received any direct communication from the Department of Defense or the White House regarding negotiations. Our insistence on exceptions is based on two considerations: first, current cutting-edge AI models are not yet reliable enough for fully autonomous weapons, and such applications would endanger the safety of U.S. military personnel and civilians; second, large-scale domestic surveillance violates fundamental human rights.”
“The Department of Defense listing Anthropic as a supply chain risk is unprecedented. We are deeply disappointed. Since June 2024, Anthropic has continuously supported U.S. military personnel and remains committed to maintaining this support. We believe this designation is legally unfounded and sets a dangerous precedent for any American company negotiating with the government. No matter what deterrence or punishment the Department of Defense imposes, it will not change our stance against large-scale domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons. We will challenge any supply chain risk designation through legal channels.”
