Monero (XMR) has been on a completely different path from mainstream cryptocurrencies since its inception in April 2014. Unlike coins derived from Bitcoin, XMR uses the CryptoNote protocol — which has unique algorithmic innovations in blockchain privacy obfuscation.

Most interestingly, this code is designed to be so clean and modular that even Bitcoin core maintainer Wladimir J. van der Laan has praised it. Monero's goal is very clear: to create a truly untraceable digital currency.

Compared to Bitcoin and its various forks, Monero offers a higher level of anonymity. If privacy matters to you, XMR's difficulty to trace transactions indeed provides a unique advantage. This is also why Monero has maintained its position in the privacy coin sector.

Really, XMR has always been a veteran in privacy-focused coins, much more reliable than those flashy privacy coins. As for the CryptoNote protocol, the design philosophy is quite different, with meticulous attention to detail... No wonder even BTC enthusiasts recognize it. Among privacy coins, XMR is still the go-to; others just feel like gambling. But honestly, the number of people actually using XMR is pitifully small; most folks are just trading coins. Wladimir's endorsement sounds ridiculous; when did he become so free? High tracking difficulty is indeed an advantage, but who really cares about that these days? XMR's path is indeed unique, but its ecosystem isn't as thriving as Bitcoin's, which is a bit unfortunate. The modular design is good, but what about ecosystem applications? That's the key. The privacy coin route is too narrow; XMR has persisted the longest, but it's still niche.

XMR, to put it simply, is an interesting fork in the history of cryptography. The CryptoNote approach is a completely different dimension of thinking compared to Bitcoin's "transparent ledger" design—it's like a paradigm shift from Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism. Few privacy coins have survived until now, Monero doesn't hype or raise funds; it purely aims to perfect the technology. This spirit is somewhat reminiscent of the early days of the internet. Although I don't recommend going all-in on any single coin, this "stay true to yourself" attitude is definitely worth paying attention to.
