According to Guru Club, on June 9, Yann LeCun, former head of Meta AI and a foundational figure in deep learning, warned that CEO-driven narratives about AI apocalypse are incorrect and destructive. He criticized CEOs for exaggerating product impact to serve commercial interests, stating such warnings deter young people from pursuing education and careers they are passionate about.
LeCun emphasized the true risk lies not in AI itself but in people making major life decisions based on unfounded doomsday predictions. He noted that many economists dispute claims that AI will eliminate large numbers of entry-level white-collar jobs, and cautioned that widespread apocalyptic messaging could cause lasting psychological harm to students who fear human extinction.
