Mainland Man Loses 500,000 Yuan in Cryptocurrency Investment, Intercepted by Hong Kong Authorities on May 14

According to Hong Kong media outlet Oriental Daily, a 34-year-old mainland man reported on May 14 that he planned to travel to Hong Kong to end his life after losing approximately 500,000 yuan on a cryptocurrency trading platform and exhausting complaint channels with the platform. Authorities intercepted him at a fast food restaurant later that day and discovered a lighter and suspected gasoline in his possession. He was arrested on suspicion of “possessing items with intent to damage property” and remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
