Canada's Merchandise Trade Surplus Surges to 27.2 Billion CAD in April, Highest Since January 2026

According to Canadian trade data, Canada's merchandise trade surplus surged to 27.2 billion CAD in April, the highest since January 2026 and marking the second consecutive month of trade gains. Total exports reached a record 752 billion CAD, up 1.6% from March.

Trade with the United States, Canada's largest partner, showed particularly strong results, with the bilateral surplus hitting the highest level since February 2025. Exports to the U.S. jumped 4.8% to 95 billion CAD, driven by gains in crude oil, passenger vehicles, and light trucks.
