18 April, co-founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterin urged users to avoid visiting any links after the popular ENS gateway was attacked at the DNS registrar level.
A few minutes later, the limo team confirmed the breach: the service domain was hijacked, and specialists are already working with all participants to resolve the issue.
limo is a free and open gateway that allows running Ethereum Name Service (ENS) sites in regular browsers. It converts ENS addresses into standard HTTPS links — enabling decentralized sites to be accessed without running a personal IPFS node.
The attacker gained control over the account, at the domain registrar. This allowed them to redirect all limo traffic — thereby risking users being directed to phishing pages or infected with malware.
Vitalik Buterin posted a direct link to his IPFS blog as a safe alternative and asked to use limo only after the official team message about the full recovery of the service.
